From His Father’s Diner to the Condiment Aisle
How a Texas Founder Is Reinventing Sauce With the Power of Pecans
Pecan BBQ Sauce
The condiment aisle has not changed much in decades. Most sauces on the shelf today are built on the same foundation they have always relied on, like seed oils, thickeners, and stabilizers that add shelf life without adding value. But a shift is underway. Across the country, consumers are flipping bottles, reading ingredient lists, and putting products back on the shelf when they see canola oil, xanthan gum, or modified food starch listed among the first ingredients. Online interest in the seed‑oil‑free movement has increased by 300 percent over the past three years, according to the blog Seed Oil Scout, reshaping what shoppers expect from the foods they bring home.
Joining this shifting landscape comes a product that reframes the conversation entirely. Rather than removing problematic ingredients and calling it a day, one East Texas founder decided to rebuild the sauce from the ground up with pecans as the foundation.
The Product:
Specialty condiment company This Product Contains Nuts welcomes the arrival of Pecan Barbecue Sauce, a condiment built on a base of real emulsified pecans. Unlike conventional barbecue sauces that rely on seed oils for body, corn syrup for sweetness, and caramel color for that rich barbecue appearance, this sauce derives its richness, thickness, color, and depth entirely from the pecan itself. The result is a sauce that is unmistakably different from the moment it leaves the bottle.
The flavor profile is bold and layered. Buttery pecan richness anchors the base, giving the sauce a natural roundness that seed oil-based sauces simply cannot replicate. Smoky chipotle brings a slow-building heat and a depth of smoke that tastes earned rather than added. A bold barbecue finish rounds everything out with a sweet note from molasses and dates, a tangy note from apple cider vinegar, and a warm finish from a blend of barbecue spices. The heat builds gradually, leaving you wanting more!
In the bottle, the sauce is a deep, rich amber and thicker than most commercial barbecue sauces, with a texture that clings to food rather than running off. On the label: no seed oils, no fillers, no thickeners, no artificial preservatives. Gluten-free, dairy-free, and Go Texan certified.

Use and Applications:
Pecan Barbecue Sauce was built for the grill but earns its place far beyond it. The obvious applications are excellent, like brushing baby back ribs in the final 20 minutes of a low-and-slow cook, using it as a glaze on roasted chicken, or spooning it over pulled pork just before serving. The pecan base caramelizes beautifully under high heat, creating a lacquered finish that holds up visually and in flavor.
But the sauce surprises in less expected places. A smash burger built with Pecan Barbecue on a toasted brioche bun delivers a complexity that standard barbecue sauces miss entirely. Drizzled over roasted sweet potatoes or grilled corn, it turns a simple side into something worth talking about. Even as a dipping sauce alongside a charcuterie board, it holds its own against aged cheeses and cured meats, with the pecan base bridging savory and sweet in a way that few condiments manage.
For the entertaining table, Pecan Barbecue Sauce is the kind of product guests ask about by name. It travels well to tailgates, cookouts, potlucks, and the bottle’s clear ingredient list makes it a conversation starter on its own.

The Story Behind the Sauce:
Brandon Barnes grew up in his father’s diner in Houston, Texas. He learned to cook before he could read, and in that kitchen, he absorbed something that has stayed with him ever since: that sharing food is how you love people. It was not a philosophy he was taught. It was something he watched every day, in the way his father fed his community, in the way the diner tables brought people together.
Years later, after building a successful career in automotive sales, Brandon found himself at a crossroads. In his spare time, he had spent years reviewing and analyzing more than 500 bottled sauces and documenting each one on his social media channels. He had come to the same conclusion over and over again. Most sauces were built on cheap, industrially processed ingredients that added no nutritional value and left an unpleasant residue in the mouth. The better option did not exist. So he built it.
He left the comfort of his six-figure job, moved full-time to building This Product Contains Nuts (TPCN) in Nacogdoches, Texas, and set about developing a line of condiment sauces built entirely from emulsified nuts. Every SKU in the TPCN lineup — Pistachio Jalapeño, Walnut Birria, Pecan Barbecue, and Cashew Mayo — uses a different nut chosen specifically for how it carries its flavor profile. For the barbecue sauce, pecans were the clear answer from the start.
“I found my love for cooking in my Dad’s Diner. Watching him in the kitchen taught me everything. Sharing food is how you love people. I still cook that way, for my family and my community. This sauce is that tradition bottled. Whole nuts, blended with bold flavors. Nothing fake and made to share.” — Brandon Barnes, Founder, This Product Contains Nuts
The Pecan Barbecue Sauce is a direct expression of that philosophy. Texas pecans are local, meaningful, and nutritionally rich in a way that seed oils never could be. Building a barbecue sauce on them was not a marketing decision. It was the only decision that made sense.
Details:
TPCN Pecan Barbecue Sauce is produced in small batches through a licensed Texas co-packer, consistent with the brand’s Go Texan certification and commitment to keeping production within the state. The sauce is made in limited runs rather than in large continuous production volumes, which allows for quality control at every stage.
The key to producing this sauce is all in the technique — this process creates a creamy base without the addition of any seed oils, lecithins, or synthetic emulsifiers. The thickness and body of the final sauce come entirely from the pecan itself. No xanthan gum. No modified food starch. No shortcuts. The sauce is free from seed oils, fillers, thickeners, dairy, gluten, added refined sugars, and artificial flavors or preservatives.
Availability:
TPCN Pecan Barbecue Sauce is available year-round as part of the brand’s core four-SKU lineup. It is not a seasonal or limited-batch release, though the brand does explore specialty offerings as production scale allows.
The sauce is currently available at many retail locations across the United States. If you don’t see it, ask for it! All four TPCN SKUs are available online at thisproductcontainsnuts.com, with shipping available nationwide. A four-bottle sampler allows customers to try every flavor in the lineup.
