June 2026 Letter from the Editor
In Oklahoma, attendees will take part in the Oklahoma Pecan Growers Convention and Trade Show. Soon after, Louisiana will host the TriState Pecanference and orchard tour. Then in July, the Texas Pecan Growers Association will hold its 105th Annual Conference and Trade Show, offering another amazing opportunity for growers and industry members to meet and learn. Tickets are going quickly, and the full conference will not return until 2028, so the group encourages early registration. We hope you enjoy these educational programs, new events, and the camaraderie that comes with spending time among like‑minded people.
Whether you are traveling to industry events or staying focused on your crop at home, we hope you feel supported by your community. Growing, harvesting, shelling, shipping, and selling pecans takes many hands, and summer is a good time to strengthen those connections.
This month’s issue explores the impact of the small but damaging Leafroll Mite, along with insights on managing the root zone, a critical area for protecting tree health. From Georgia, Lenny Wells continues his discussion on water use for pecans in humid conditions. You will also get a look at how the American Pecan Council is working to build demand in today’s market, as well as updates and photos from the National Pecan Federation on how pecans and agriculture are faring in Washington, D.C.
Hope to see you this summer at conferences and events. If you have a question or a fun bit of pecan knowledge you would like to share, we would love to hear from you.
Best wishes,
Sarah Dieringer
