Remembering John Lee Abraham
January 6, 1951 - February 23, 2026
He began his career as a county agent with the Louisiana Extension Service and later worked in agri-chem with Standard Oil of California, DuPont, and Helena before serving as a consultant to Oasis Chemicals. A devoted husband, father, mentor, rancher, and community leader, John dedicated his seventy-five years to faith, family, and service. He married Bertha Connally Abraham in 1973, and they shared fifty-two years together. Together they welcomed three children. A faithful prayer warrior and longtime church leader, he most recently worshiped at New Hope Community Church.
Drawn to the land from an early age, John and Bertha purchased Circle A Farm and Ranch in Wharton County in 1996. He became a respected pecan grower, earning numerous regional honors and serving on the board of the Texas Pecan Growers Association as its first African American board member.
Known for his generosity, wisdom, and remarkable storytelling, he mentored many and cherished the family gatherings held on his land. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Bertha; his daughter, Jaynacia Abraham Hale (Eric); his grandchildren, Zachary Ryan Abraham, Ericka Areal Drinker, and Stormy Rose Hale; his godson, Jon Paul Dean; siblings and extended family; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his sons, Michael Derrick Abraham and Nathan Bradley Abraham; his parents; and several siblings. His legacy of faith, family, and stewardship will endure.
Funeral services will be held on March 7, 2026, at 11 a.m., with visitation at 10 a.m. Visitation will also take place at the Matthews Funeral Home on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 2-5 p.m. Most precious memories entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home of Wharton 979.532.2715
