Letter from the Editor: “Congrats to Pecan Alley!”

The cover of Pecan South's February 2024 issue features the logo at the top and a photo of a road leading between two rows of mature pecan trees. The canopies of the trees stretch across the road and form a dark green arch down the road.

Dear Readers,

I am excited to announce the winner of our Annual Harvest Photo Contest: “Pecan Alley” by Susan Jeter.

Congratulations, Susan! Thank you for sharing this photo with us. Readers, you can spot the winning picture on our cover.

We received entries from around the world. Pecan growers and industry members captured the beauty of their orchards and pecan businesses. From foggy mornings to beautiful sunsets, entries showcased the wonder and hard work of growing pecans.

After the submission deadline, the Pecan South staff struggled to narrow the photos down to just five finalists. Then, we left it up to our readers via an email poll and social media. With your help, we found our winner. Susan’s photo reminded many voters of the long, arduous road toward a thriving pecan orchard.

We’ll be back this fall for our next photo contest. So, if you’d like a chance at getting on the cover, start taking photos and thinking about your entries now. And maybe your photo will be on the February 2025 cover!

I’d also like to recognize our other finalists: Lisa Voss, Bernardino Vega, Arri Sofía, and Carl Buchanan. Many contest voters said they thought all the photos were beautiful and it was hard to choose between them. (We understand that struggle!) Their pictures and other images from the contest can be found on page 32 in the magazine. We’ll also share all our entries on the website and Facebook, so stay tuned.

Congrats again, Susan! And thank you again to everyone who sent us a photo! We enjoyed seeing moments of your life and pecan operation, and I can’t wait to see the great pictures you all take for the next contest. You all are indeed the best part of this magazine.

‘Til next time,

Catherine Clark
