Letter from the Editor: “The Last Dance”
Dear Reader,
I’m trying to savor every moment. The feel of editing an article and fixing typos. The click of my mouse as I adjust the design of the magazine, moving pictures and text and ads to create a visually pleasing and readable edition. The clack of my keyboard as I write this letter to you.
Throughout all these tasks, I keep wondering if anyone is actually good at saying goodbye. Will this letter be enough to describe my time here at Pecan South and the Texas Pecan Growers Association? Can one magazine—56 pages—capture the dedication and love that I feel for this industry?
After almost eight years, thousands of pages, and 90 issues of Pecan South, I’ve reached my last one. This magazine that you are holding is my last dance. I recently accepted a position outside the pecan industry and will move on to a new adventure in early December.
When I started at Pecan South, I never imagined the places I’d visit and the people I’d meet. So many of you welcomed me into your orchards and businesses, gave me countless kind words and support, and taught me about the challenges and joy of growing pecans.
I’m beyond grateful for you and the time I’ve spent with the Texas Pecan Growers Association and Pecan South. I hope that my last issue lives up to my standards and gives you some educational resources to become a more informed and prepared grower.
As I close out this last letter to you all, I want to take a moment to thank you again. I will truly treasure the time I’ve spent in this industry. And I promise to continue to advocate for farmers and spread the good word about pecans—no matter where life takes me.
I hope you enjoy this month’s magazine, and I wish you and your loved ones health and happiness this holiday season.
To new beginnings,
Catherine Clark
