Dear Reader,

Harvest is upon us! This month growers throughout the Pecan Belt will start shaking trees and bringing in their 2023 crop. Industry groups have released their crop estimates in anticipation of this crop year. The Ben Littlepage Memorial Guesstimate from the TriState Pecanference was released in June, while the Texas Pecan Growers Association shared its estimate in early August. You can find the two estimates and the USDA’s numbers for 2022 utilized production below. Later this month the National Pecan Shellers Association will release its estimate, and Pecan South will publish it in our following issue.

Also, this month, Pecan South’s Pecan Newsletter returns. The Pecan Newsletter includes reports and observations from growers and buyers throughout the Pecan Belt and Mexico. Published by the editors of Pecan South, the Pecan Newsletter offers growers and industry members a weekly update on harvest progression and price movement, including crop reports, information on commercial meat prices, and reactions to various seasonal developments.

Until next time,
