Celebrating a century as an organization, the Texas Pecan Growers Association (TPGA) gathered in San Marcos, Texas, on July 18 through 21, 2021, for its 100th annual Conference and Trade Show. Attendees met at the Embassy Suites San Marcos Hotel Spa & Conference Center, where they heard presentations ranging from food safety and sustainability to the pecan market to best orchard management practices. TPGA Conference attendees also received updates from several industry groups, attended networking events, mingled with product and service providers, and raised money for research and advocacy projects. On the conference’s last day, participants visited Comal Pecan Farm in New Braunfels. A fifth-generation family farm, Comal Pecan Farm sits along the I-35 corridor and faces increased industrial and residential development.

During TPGA’s 2021 orchard tour at Comal Pecan Farm, four groups rotated through presentations. Group A (on the left in the picture above) gathers outside the Friesenhahns’ retail store and listens to Mark Friesenhahn talk about his orchard’s history. Group B (on the right in the picture above) tours the cleaning plant and hears from Troy Swift, one of TPGA’s directors and owner of Swift River Pecans.
